Along with beautiful landscapes, friendly people and awe-inspiring temples, Chiang Mai’s culinary offering is second to none. With plenty of delicious, affordable street food on offer, Chiang Mai is also packed with great restaurants and bars serving high quality, local food and drink. Here are 5 of my favourites you need to check out.
Nun’s Restaurant
What.3.Words: leaned.unites.sank
A must visit! This tiny restaurant has around 10 tables and is tucked away down a quiet side street in the walled city. Nun’s serves up excellent food in generous portions. Their Khao Soi is arguably one of the best in Thailand! Each dish is cooked fresh to order and made with ingredients bought at the local market that morning.
Gord Chiang Mai Kitchen
What.3.Words: fired.robot.noodle
Gord Kitchen is a great cafe hidden in a residential area of the walled city. Seating is in a peaceful garden environment, surrounded with lush greenery. This is the perfect spot for a relaxing coffee break whilst watching the Koi Carp. The food menu is also fantastic for breakfast and lunch.
Bitter Truth
What.3.Words: eggs.unusually.employer
This stylish cocktail bar serves artistically blended beverages and offers unique cocktails other than the usual options. The industrial and artsy decor adds to the classy atmosphere. The bar staff are also happy to make alcohol free versions or alternatives on request.
It’s Good Kitchen
What.3.Words: garages.fewest.paints
A highly-rated restaurant serving authentic Northern Thai food with friendly service. It’s Good Kitchen is popular with tourists meaning there is often a queue in the evening, but a mist machine is provided at the door to help beat the heat whilst waiting for a table. Lunchtime’s are usually quieter and a better time to visit if you’d rather not queue too long.
Xanadu Pub & Restaurant
What.3.Words: informal.harder.aspect
At the very top of the Furama Hotel Chiang Mai sits Xanadu, an atmospheric rooftop restaurant offering excellent views of the city and Doi Suthep. Live entertainment is provided throughout the evening to complement the varied menu on offer.
