The Back(pack) Story

Travel has been my dream for as long as I can remember. In my teens, I envisioned myself taking a gap year after school or building a career in the travel industry as cabin crew or on board a cruise ship, visiting far flung destinations all over the world. There always seemed to be something in the way though – lack of time, funds or the understandable concerns of family and friends.

In 2020, as a twenty-something amongst the Covid chaos with the feeling that maybe this was the sign to “settle down”, I still felt I had unfinished business with my travel dreams. So I made a silent pact with myself. No matter what, once the lockdowns lifted and the world reopened, travel would become the number one priority. No excuses.

I admire those who feel able to drop everything and take off on open-ended travel. However, for me, that is not an option. I am lucky to have an established career and home that I love and don’t feel able to give up, so my adventures will be built around the time I have available on annual leave and weekends. I’m a big fan of weekend breaks, so this is a challenge I embrace.

So from now on, my trusty backpack and I will be spending as much time together as possible. Sometimes with family and friends, sometimes without. I can’t wait to share this journey with you.
